The lesson that I’ve long forgotten

    THE ROOM OF CROSSES

The young man was at the end of his rope. Seeing no way out, he dropped to his knees in prayer. “Lord, I can’t go on,” he said, “My cross is too heavy to bear.”

The Lord replied, “My son, if you cannot bear its weight, just place your cross inside this room. Then open another door and pick out any cross you wish.”

The man was filled with relief. “Thank you, Lord,” he sighed, and did as he was told. As he looked around the room he saw many different crosses; some so large the tops were not visible. Then he spotted a tiny cross leaning against a wall. “I’d like that one, Lord,” he whispered.

And the Lord replied, “My son, that’s the cross you came in with.”

Do you feel your parents are so strict with you? They are too much to bear? Imagine that many kids don’t even have parents with them any more? What would you feel if your parents were no longer with you? Would that be better for you?

Do you feel your school’s work is too much to bear? Imagine that there are millions of kids are working on the streets, in the farms, in sweat manufactures or begging on the street. Would you think that would be better for you to do those than the school’s work?

God knows what best for you. Even the little challenges you think you have, they are there for your benefits. They are sent to you to help you grow in wisdom and appreciation. They are there to help you make the best out of your gifts, talents and potentials. Is it too much to bear?
